History
The Queer Pride Flag represents people who identify as queer, an umbrella word for anyone whose sexuality or gender does not fit straight or cisgender norms; some use it instead of a narrower label, others use it alongside one. The minimalist three-stripe design in black, gray, and white emerged around 2010 from online queer communities that wanted a symbol distinct from the rainbow flag. The neutral palette is meant to suggest that queerness is a broad spectrum rather than a single fixed category.
